Edward Carl Heyer was born February 12, 1920 near Madison, Minnesota, the son of Herman and Emma (Tiejen) Heyer. On September 26, 1939 he was united in marriage to Evelyn Viereck in Orange City, IA. The couple lived in the Larchwood area, and then moved to the farm near George where they remained and raised their family. Ed was a proud farmer, who was passionate about all things farming. He worked at Sudenga full time from 1958 to 1968, drove school bus, and sold seed for Walnut Grove. Ed returned to Sudenga, delivering equipment, attending fairs with the reps of the company, and worked in the Auger Department.
He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and camping trips with Evelyn. He volunteered with the Boy Scouts and Wheel Dynamics. Ed was interested in all the new farm equipment and had a ride in one of the new combines last year. He was a very compassionate person and an all-around good guy.
His wife, Evelyn passed away on August 13, 2016, at the Good Samaritan Home in George at the age of 95. In December of that year Ed entered the Good Samaritan Home where he remained until this past Tuesday, December 11th, at the age of 98. He will be greatly missed.
Ed is survived by his children, Wayne (Connie) Heyer of Stigler, OK, Carol Labadie of George, IA, Roger (Debi) Heyer of Nisswa, MN, Monty (Julie) Heyer of Cabot, AR; grandchildren, Michele Heyer, Donna Heyer, Melinda (Darrin) Packebush and Daniel (Gina) Heyer; great-grandchildren, Coleton and Bradon Packebush, and Dean Heyer; brother Warren Heyer of Sioux Falls, SD; and many other extended family members.
