Little Rock, IA Elizabeth (Betty) DeBondt Zevenbergen age 93 of Little Rock, IA. passed away on Thursday, December 9, 2021, at Sibley Specialty Care. Funeral service will be at 10:30 AM Thursday, December 16th at Salem Reformed Church in Little Rock, IA, with Reverend Barry Wynveen officiating. Service Livestream Link: Betty Zevenbergen Service Burial will be at 1:30 Thursday, December 16th at Ocheyedan Township Cemetery in Ocheyedan, IA. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 15th from 4:00pm to 8:00pm, with family present from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Jurrens Funeral Home in Sibley IA. Elizabeth (Betty) VanderVeen was born December 8, 1928, near Sheldon, IA, the daughter of Ralph and Florence (Hector) VanderVeen. In Betty's youth she spent most of her time growing up in the Ocheyedan, IA area. She graduated from Ocheyedan High School in 1948. On February 24, 1953, she married John DeBondt. They met while roller skating. They were blessed with five children. John passed away on July 30th, 1984. On January 26, 1990, she married Art Zevenbergen. He passed away on August 27, 2013. Elizabeth was a very loving mother and grandmother. One of her favorite joys was baking. She always had goodies on hand for whoever stopped by. She also loved to crochet and made many baby blankets for grandchildren and great grandchildren. We cherish all the things she made for us over the years. She was also an avid reader and put together many puzzles in the winter months. Betty never missed an episode of “Wheel of Fortune!” She was a stay-at-home mom when her children were young. She then worked at Carlson Drug and at Ocheyedan Elementary as a cook. Elizabeth's faith was absolute! Her love for the Lord was so evident in her life. She was a member of Salem Reformed Church in Little Rock, IA. Betty is survived by her loving children, Linda (Dan) Zevenbergen, Orange City, IA, Debra (Kim) Thomas, Lake Park, IA, Sandra (Leon) DeBoer, Little Rock, IA, Jeffrey (Amy) DeBondt, Sioux Falls, SD, and Bradley DeBondt, Ocheyedan, IA; 19 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 2 great, great grandchildren; 3 stepchildren; 1 sister, Rose Sankey, Sioux Falls, SD; 3 sisters-in law, HelenVanderVeen, Margaret VanderVeen, and Lorraine VanderVeen. Also, many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members as well as her special friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Florence; two husbands, John DeBondt and Art Zevenbergen; 3 brothers, Fred, Klaas, and Bernard VanderVeen; 2 sisters, Winnie Jans and Hilda Oltman; 3 brothers-in-law, Jake Jans, Ben Oltman and Harold Sankey; one sister-in-law, Katherine VanderVeen; and one great granddaughter, Shianne Schwebach.
