Elvin Duitsman

     Elvin Duitsman, age 91 of George, Iowa died Sunday, October 8, 2023, at the Good Samaritan Society of George.

    A funeral service will take place at 2:00 PM, Saturday, October 14, 2023 at Central Baptist Church in George, Iowa with Pastor Sean Mustian, officiating.  Burial will follow in the First Baptist Cemetery, rural George.

     A visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church.

     

Elvin Glen Duitsman, son of John and Ollie (Klaahsen) Duitsman, was born September 29, 1932, near George, Iowa. He grew up near George and attended country School.

Elvin maintained close ties to the acreage and farm he was raised on. While living on the family homestead until just shortly before his death, he oversaw the use of the farm ground. He also became deeply involved in the antique business for many decades, with shops in Sioux Falls, Spirit Lake, and elsewhere.

He was a member at Central Baptist Church of George, IA for much of his life. There he was not only involved in the church but also the business of the North American Baptist Conference of churches, including involvement in establishing Village Creek Bible Camp in Lansing, IA.

At Central Baptist he served faithfully as a deacon for many years. Toward the end of his service to Central Baptist he befriended many newcomers to the town of George from the Federated States of Micronesia. A firm and rich relationship flourished for over a decade. His kindness changed the lives of many.

Elvin was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Ila Jane Heikes. He leaves behind his nephew Joel Heikes.
