     Ervin Backer age 89 of Sibley, IA died Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at Country View Manor in Sibley, IA.

    A funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, December 19^th, 2018 at the Tabernacle Baptist Church in George, IA with Reverend Bryan Anderson and Pastor Oryn Meinerts officiating.

     Burial will follow in the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George.

     Visitation will be Tuesday, December 18^th from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m., with family present, at the Jurrens Funeral Home in Sibley, IA. 

     Ervin Arthur Backer was born July 5, 1929 near Melvin, Iowa, the son of Arthur and Winifred (Rosenboom) Backer. He was raised in Sibley and attended the Sibley Public School, graduating in 1948. Ervin was drafted into the United States Army and attended basic training in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He was stationed in Germany for 17 months as a Corporal and was honorably discharged on August 28, 1953. On July 19, 1974 Ervin was united in marriage to Ruth Vust at the Tabernacle Baptist Church in George. They lived their married life in Sibley. Ervin worked for Sibley Egg and Poultry as a truck driver for many years, and later as a Ready-Mix Concrete driver for Sibley Concrete Products and retired in 1994.

     He enjoyed camping with Ruth at the Iowa Great Lakes, having coffee with friends, bus trips to various locations, and attending family gatherings. Ervin and Ruth enjoyed volunteering at Justice for All, a church mission place in Rock Valley, IA. They also enjoyed attending musical concerts. Ruth passed away June 11, 2008. In October of 2015 Ervin entered Country View Manor in Sibley.

     Ervin is survived by his sister, Dorothy Groote of Sibley, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews.

     He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruth; infant brother, Donald; sister, Ruth Loerts; step mother, Ida Backer; two step brothers, Calvin and Delbert Kadous and step sister, Lavonne Balt.
