Ethel Mae Johnson Boone was born on May 4, 1927, to Lewis and Rosella (Smith) Johnson.  She had two brothers: Egner (Johnny) and Melvin.  At age three, she went to go live in George with her grandmother, Matilda Johnson, while Johnny and Melvin resided on the farm with Lewis.  Ethel was supported and influenced by aunts, uncles and cousins who lived nearby.  Ethel received her education from the George Iowa school district.  Later in life she met Joe Boone, and they were married on October 4, 1946.  They enjoyed living their life together in the George, Sheldon, and Matlock area.

Ethel embraced life fully.  She always had a smile on her face and thoroughly enjoyed socializing with others.  For many years, Ethel was a member of the United Methodist Church until it closed and then she attended the Tabernacle Baptist Church where Ethel liked participating in Bible study and Women’s Fellowship.  She had a love of music which was evident through her singing in the choir and playing the guitar.  Throughout life, Ethel also enjoyed gardening with Joe, canning, playing games, (especially BINGO) and visiting with friends and relatives.

On October 27, 1997, Ethel’s beloved husband, Joe Boone, died and Ethel continued to reside in George up until January 2011 when she moved to Lyon Manor (now Lyon Specialty Care) in Rock Rapids, Iowa.  She passed away there on May 14, 2024, at the age of 97 years 10 days.

Left to cherish her memory are many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.  She will be remembered as a jolly soul who never complained, lived a full life, and loved her Lord and Savior.
