     Eugene Philiph, age 92 of Sibley, IA died on Thursday, November 11, 2021, at the Country View Manor in Sibley.

     Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 15, 2021, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sibley, IA, with Reverend Tim Nappe officiating.       Livestream Link

     Visitation will be Monday, November 15^th one hour prior to the service at the church.

     In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials directed to the Trinity Lutheran Church Building Fund.

     Eugene Herbert Philiph was born on April 10, 1929 in Hartley, IA, the son of Edwin John and Nelda Clara (Wacker) Philiph.  He grew up in rural Melvin, attended Baker Township Country School through the 8^th grade and graduated from Hartley High School.  Gene then attended Valparaiso University where he received a Juris Doctorate.

     On August 15, 1954, he was united in marriage to Corinne Putnam in Ponca, NE.  To this union four children were born, Jeff, Doug, SueAnn and Darcy.  Gene established E.H. Philiph Law Firm on July 1, 1955, in Melvin, IA and in July of 1957 he moved the firm to Sibley, Iowa.

     He was very active in the community serving as Mayor of Sibley from 1964 to 1967, City Attorney from 1974 to 1980, member of the Sibley Industrial Development Board, and the local Kiwanis club. He also served at the state and national level on several boards and councils including the Economic Development Board for Iowa Region 4, the Small Business Advisory Council, the Iowa Bar Association, and Kiwanis International.  Gene received the Iowa Small Businessman of the Year award in 2003 and 2004.

     His hobbies and interests included fishing, golfing, bowling, watching baseball and golf on TV and loved coaching little league baseball.

     Gene is survived by his four children, Jeff (Ann) Philiph of St. Louis, MO, Doug (Marcia) Philiph of Des Moines, IA, SueAnn (Tom) Jankowski of Clinton, IA and Darcy (Bob) Ney of Melvin, IA; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; along with other extended family.

     He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Corinne on October 23, 2012; and two brothers, Donald and Duane.
