     Evelyn Jane Olson, age 85, of Rock Rapids, IA died Friday, March 6, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Society of George, IA.

     Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 9^th at First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids, IA with Rev. Dan Haggar officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids.  

     Visitation will be Sunday, March 8^th from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m., with family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.

Evelyn was born November 20, 1934, the daughter of Henry and Ida (Spieker) Kix. She grew up on a farm northwest of George, IA and attended country school. Her mother, Ida passed away when Evelyn was 13, so she gave up school to help with the family responsibilities.

     She was married to Harold “Bud” Krull on September 9, 1953 at Hope Reformed Church in George, IA. They were blessed with four children, Brenda, Ronda, Kevin and Lisa. They lived in George for a short while, until moving to an acreage northwest of George. They moved to Edna, IA in 1960 and finally Rock Rapids, IA in 1976. During this time, she worked at the Rock Rapids Hatchery, candling eggs, and Rexall Drug in George and Rock Rapids. In 1975 Evelyn opened Kids Klothes Kloset in Rock Rapids and ran the business for 29 years, closing in the spring of 2004.

     On March 26, 1980 Evelyn’s husband, Harold died after a brief battle with cancer. On March 14, 1982, Evelyn married Eugene Olson at Hope Reformed Church in George. They continued to live in Rock Rapids and Evelyn continued to run her business. On November 7, 2004, Evelyn’s husband Eugene died. Evelyn remained living in Rock Rapids and stayed active with community activities. She was a member of Hope Reformed Church in George. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards and loved her dog, Molly. She entered Good Samaritan Society in George, IA in December of 2016, where she remained until this past Friday, March 6, 2020.

     She is survived by four children, Brenda (husband Tony) Benz of Rock Rapids, IA, Ronda Van Engen of Sioux Falls, SD, Kevin (wife LeAnn) of Rock Rapids, IA and Lisa Krull of Rock Rapids, IA; four grandchildren, Jason Van Engen, Jody Rosenboom (wife Rachael), Lindsay Thooft, and Nikki Van Engen; four step-grandchildren, Melissa Gorter, Natasha Morales, Drew Benz, and Jerrad Benz; brothers, Stanley Kix, of Marshall, MN, and Larry Kix (wife Linda) of Rock Rapids, IA; sister-in-law, Jeannette Kix of Sibley, IA; a brother-in-law, Donald Rypkema of Sioux Falls,SD; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

     She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Ida Kix; her first husband, Harold “Bud” Krull; her second husband, Eugene Olson; a grandson, Troy Rosenboom; a step-grandson, Ryan Gorter; sisters Verna Duin, and Mavis Rypkema; and brothers, Frederick Kix, and Harold Kix.
