     Fern Geerdes age 99 of Algona, IA formerly of George, IA died Monday, June, 10, 2019 at Algona Manor in Algona.

     Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2019 at Lyon County First Presbyterian in rural George, IA with Pastor Brian Schafer officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery at George, IA.

     Visitation will be Friday, June 14 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. with the family present at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George.

     Jurrens Funeral Home in George is in charge of arrangements.

     Fern Arlene Geerdes was born November 23, 1919 to Louis Sr. and Caroline (Kruger) Bush in Kanranzi, Minnesota. She grew up in Ellsworth and attended Ellsworth Public School. On January 25, 1939 Fern was united in marriage to Arthur Geerdes at the family home in Magnolia, Minnesota. To this union, three children were born. They made their home on the family farm South of George, Iowa before retiring from farming and moving into George. In 2004 Fern moved to the Sheldon Christian Retirement Home, where she spent many years until moving to the Algona Manor in 2015.

     She was a member of the Lyon County First Presbyterian Church, and a member of the Dorcas Society. Fern helped with all the duties that come along with farming, including milking cows, taking care of the chickens, doing chores, and providing meals, all while raising their three children. She loved to garden, play cards, do puzzles, word searches, fish, and go bowling. Family was by far the most important thing in her life.

     Fern was survived by her children, Marlys (Dick) Wilsey of Firestone, CO, Ruth Lindgren of Algona, IA, Daryle (Donna) Geerdes of Concord, CA; six grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.

     She is preceded in death by her parents Louis and Caroline Bush; husband Arthur Geerdes; son-in-law Bill Lindgren; five sisters; and four brothers.
