Frances Weerheim age 96 of Rock Rapids, IA died Monday, October 22, 2018, at Accura Healthcare in Spirit Lake, IA.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 29th at First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids, IA with Rev. Dan Haggar, officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverview Cemetery at Rock Rapids, IA.
Visitation will be Monday, October 29th from 1:00 p.m. until time of service with the family present at the First Reformed Church of Rock Rapids.
Frances Marceil (Brown) Weerheim was born near Rock Rapids, IA on April 11, 1922, the daughter of Arthur W. and Della (Sedam) Brown. Frances attended school in Rock Rapids, graduating from Wilson High School in 1940. In childhood and through her young adult years she was a faithful and active member of the Church of Christ (Disciples) in Rock Rapids. On August 29, 1941, she was united in marriage to J.M. “Mike” Weerheim. They lived in Denver, CO until 1943 when they returned to Rock Rapids – her husband soon entered the United States Army. From 1949 – 1953 Mike and Frances farmed at Platte, SD. They were members of the Reformed church, where she was active with teaching Sunday School and working with the youth choir and men’s quartet. In 1962, Frances became a typesetter and proof reader for the Lyon County Reporter until 1969. In the Fall of 1969, she became the secretary to the principal at Central Lyon High School, retiring during the summer of 1987. She had been an active member of the First Reformed Church, where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and was involved in the Reformed Church Women. After Mike passed away in 2013, Frances stayed in her home and later moved to Premier Estates and in 2018, she became a resident at Accura Healthcare in Spirit Lake, IA, where she passed away this past Monday evening, October 22, 2018 at the age of ninety-six.
She is survived by her daughter, Twyla Garnmeister of Spirit Lake; grandchildren, Michael Garnmeister of Palatine, IL, Michelle (Al) Bartley of Spirit Lake, IA, James (Erin) Garnmeister of Des Moines, IA, Mark (Laura) Weerheim of Rochester, MN, Bryce Weerheim and Steven Weerheim of Stewartville, MN and Dean Weerheim of Rochester, MN; ten great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Della Brown, son, Larry Weerheim and daughter-in-law, Sigrun Weerheim; sisters, Mildred Vaughan; Vernice Dengler and a sister Betty in infancy.
