F. "Jack" Spitler

Rock Rapids, IA     F. “Jack ” Spitler age 91 of Rock Rapids, IA died Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at the Rock Rapids Health Center in Rock Rapids, IA.      Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 9th at the United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids, with Reverend Kathy Sides officiating.  Burial will follow in the Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids, IA, with military honors by Rex Strait American Legion Post No. 103 and Van Anne-Fields VFW Post No. 6960.      Visitation will be Sunday, April 8th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.      Frank John “Jack” Spitler, Jr. was born July 24, 1926 in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Frank J. and Zoe (Dyer) Spitler. He was raised in Des Moines and after his high school graduation he entered the U.S. Navy, serving from 1944 to 1946.   He returned to Des Moines, and was united in marriage to Helen “Holly” Silzer on September 14, 1947. They lived in Des Moines while Jack attended Drake University, receiving his Bachelors in Business Administration. He began working at A.A. Augustine & Company as an accountant. In May of 1954 Jack earned his CPA and moved to Rock Rapids, IA, where he started F. Jack Spitler, CPA. In 1988, he took on a partner, and the company name changed to Siebrecht – Spitler , CPAs. In 1994 the company added a partner and was changed to Siebrecht Spitler & De Noble PC. He served as Managing CPA until he retired in 1996.      He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Rock Rapids, IA, the Van Anne-Fields Post No. 6960, VFW and Rex Strait Post No. 103, American Legion of Rock Rapids, Masonic Lodge, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Iowa Society of Certified Public Accountants, Rock Rapids Community Affairs Corporation, Northwest Iowa Technical College Board, Kiwanis, Lyon County Fair Board, Boy Scouts of America, Rock Rapids Development Corporation, Rock Rapids Municipal Housing Agency, Rock Rapids Jaycees, and in 1988 he was honored with the Rock Rapids Distinguished Community Service Award. He also was active with Stephen Ministries and coached Little League baseball.      He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Holly Spitler of Rock Rapids, IA; three children, Diane (husband, David) Wortman of Mount Juliet, TN, Dick (wife, Kerry) Spitler of Drake, CO and David (wife, Kari) Spitler of Sioux Falls, SD; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Sherry Boone of La Mesa, CA; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.    He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Spitler and Zoe Pullen; step-mother, Fran Daly; two sisters, Nancy Eddy and Jane Laird; step-father, Roy Pullen.
