Franklin Harold Heibult age 91, of Sheldon, Iowa, died Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon, IA.
Visitation will be Sunday, January 21st from 2:00 to 4:00 PM, with the family present at Jurrens Funeral Home of George.
Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Monday, January 22nd at Lyon County 1st Presbyterian Church, rural George, IA, with Pastor Verlyn Netten officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Franklin was born March 18, 1932 at the family farm west of Ashton, Iowa to Herman and Frances (Arends) Heibult. Franklin attended school at Dale Township #1. Franklin was married to Margaret Walbran on May 25, 1952. He served in the U.S. Army from September 15,1952 trained as a diesel mechanic in Ft. Riley, Kansas. He was then stationed in Korea. He was honorably discharged on August 12, 1954. Franklin and Margaret farmed northeast of Little Rock for several years before moving to the family farm west of Ashton. Over the years Franklin and Margaret raised crops and livestock and to this union five children were born - Dan, Diane, Doug, Sandy, and Scott. Franklin did custom farm work for area neighbors and friends as well as working their own farm. He was a seed corn and bean dealer for many years.
Franklin had interests that included genealogy, antique tractors, following the markets, coins, stamps, sudoku, and reading. He was one of the first area farmers to computerize his farm records. Franklin and Margaret retired to Sheldon in 1993. Although he was no longer on the farm, it was always in his heart and mind. He ran the combine every year until he was 89.
Franklin is survived by Margaret, his wife of 71 years, children Kim Heibult, Tyler, MN, Diane & Mark Runyan of Belleville, IL, Doug & Deb Heibult of Sheldon, IA, Sandy Heibult (Glen Kuebler) of St. James, MN, Scott & Tammy Heibult of George, IA, brother-in-law Walter Vust. 12 grandchildren - Amy Heibult, Peter Runyan, Megan (Jordan) Meister, Jared (Kristen) Runyan, Anthony (Kaitlyn) Heibult, Leah (Chad) Frink, Eric (Karli Bomgaars), Tara (Ryan) Johnson, Brittany (Tony) Mattson, Kari (Danny) Meyer, Sean Heibult, Laura Heibult, 12 great grandchildren, many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Florence, Margaret, and Jean, infant brother Wilmer, son Dan Heibult and many extended family.
