Frederick "Fred" Schaa

     Frederick "Fred" Schaa, age 79, of George, Iowa, died on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at Avera McKennan Hospital at Sioux Falls, SD.

     Visitation with the family present will be Sunday, May 7, 2023, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George.

     Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 8, 2023, at Hope Reformed Church at George with Rev. Steve De Haan, officiating.  Burial will follow at the Hope Reformed Cemetery at George.

     Frederick Gordon Schaa was born August 18, 1943, at Little Rock, IA, the son of Gordon and Marvella (Ackerman) Schaa.  He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Little Rock High School in 1961.  He was united in marriage to Mary Snuttjer on June 21, 1963, at Salem Reformed Church in Little Rock, IA.  They made their home in Sibley immediately after they were married and for the next ten years they lived in several communities in northwest Iowa before settling on a farm east of Rock Rapids, IA where they farmed for the next 40 plus years.  Fred held various jobs along with farming, he always worked with Mary along his side, helping in many ways, a team throughout their life together.  In 2012, they built a new home in George and retired from farming.  He was a longtime member of Hope Reformed Church in George.  This past Thursday afternoon, April 27, 2023, he died at the age of seventy-nine, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.

     He is survived by his two daughters, Kathy (Dean) Oberloh of Rock Rapids, IA and Jodi (Jim) Olson of Custer, SD; five grandchildren, Nick Gorter; Rebecca Harr (Fiancé, Ryan Houg); Alayna Gorter (Fiancé, Kolten Bus); Brittany (Justin) Seivert and Meredith Waterman (Fiancé, Adam Sims); great grandchildren, Dimitri and Anastasia Seivert and Levi Harr and “Baby Houg due in August 2023” his mother, Marvella Schaa of George; two sisters, Sandra (Vernon) Freese of Worthington, MN and Gloria (Orvis) Terhark of Blue Earth, MN; two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law along with numerous extended family.

     He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; his father, Gordon; father and mother-in-law, Frank and Grace Snuttjer and two brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law.
