Garold Dean Leathers was born on November 19, 1955, in Lincoln, NE, the son of Robert H. and Mary Ann (Wagoner) Leathers. He grew up in the Kansas City area. His last two years of high school were at Ocheyedan where he graduated.
On August 15, 1976, he was united in marriage to Jacqueline Krieger in the First Presbyterian Church in Sibley, IA. To this union three children were born, Amy, Robert, and Michael. The couple lived various places throughout their married life. They started off in Sibley, IA, before moving to Ottawa, KS, and Kansas City, KS, and then returned to Sibley. Garry worked as a truck driver for a time, then at Rosenboom Machine & Tool, and then as a machinist at Sudenga Industries until he retired in August of 2022.
Having grown up in Kansas City, Garry was always a devoted Kansas City Chiefs fan. His hobbies included working with stained glass, working on home projects, and helping his kids with their projects. He passed on these hobbies to his children and grandchildren through countless hours spent together, including Grandpa Camp. Garry enjoyed taking trips, such as two houseboat trips in northern Minnesota, also hunting trips with his son, Bob, and numerous trips to where his son Michael was stationed while he was in the Army. He especially enjoyed a trip to Caserma Ederle, Italy. Garry’s family was the most important thing to him and no matter what, he was always there for them.
