Gaylord Kruger, age 88, of Sibley, Iowa died Monday, September 7, 2020 at the Sibley Specialty Care in Sibley, IA.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 10, 2020 at the First Reformed Church in Sibley, IA, with Reverend Luke Schouten officiating. Service will be Live Streamed on the First Reformed Church Facebook page.
Burial will follow in the Holman Township Cemetery of Sibley.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9th at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley.
Gaylord Onno Kruger was born on January 25, 1932 in Sibley, IA, the son of Evert and Ida (Symens) Kruger. He grew up in Sibley and attended country school there.
One snowy day Gaylord was driving and saw a lady walking and offered her a ride; a relationship grew from that day. On June 20, 1952, Gaylord was united in marriage to Dorothy Nicks at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. To this union five children were born Deb, Marcia, Donna, Gerald and Nola. The couple lived and farmed in partnership, on the Kruger farmstead for over 50 years and then later moved to Sioux Falls, SD. They also wintered in Arizona for over 25 years. Farming was Gaylord’s life and in all he farmed for over 70 years.
Gaylord served on the Federal Land Bank Board. He was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sibley, where he served as a deacon. He was currently a member of the First Reformed Church in Sibley.
Gaylord enjoyed fishing, Levis & Lace Square Club, helping his kids in 4-H and Osceola County Fair activities; where his kids would show horses, and beef and dairy cows. Some other hobbies he enjoyed where riding his motorcycle and participating in tractor pulls. A special memory the kids had about their dad was when he would catch baby bunnies and put them in his lunch box to surprise the kids.
Gaylord lived at Heartwood Heights from March 24th to August 18th and Sibley Specialty Care from August 18th until his death on Tuesday, September 7, 2020.
Gaylord is survived by his children, Deborah (Gerald) Alons of Sanborn, IA, Marcia (Don) Faas of Sanborn, IA, Donna (Jon) Terpstra of Marne, MI, Gerald (Michelle) Kruger of Sioux Falls, SD and Nola (Dave) Trei of Sioux Falls, SD. He was blessed with fourteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; one brother, Richard Kruger of Sibley, IA; special friend, Annalee Hearn of Vegreville AB, Canada; and other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; his parents; mother and father in-law; and sister, Rose Marie Feenstra.
