Genola Eben age 85 of George, Iowa died Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Avera Merrill Pioneer Hospital in Rock Rapids, Iowa.
A memorial service will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at First Baptist Church in rural George with pastor Jesse Sternke, officiating. Burial will take place prior to the memorial service at 9:30 AM in the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery at George.
Visitation will be Monday, October 25th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the First Baptist Church.
Genola Eben was born February 3rd, 1936, the daughter of Anna (Janssen) and John K Klaahsen. Genola grew up on the family farm and attended country school. On March 25, 1955, she was united in marriage to George Eben at the Zoar Presbyterian Church parsonage at rural George, IA. She and George made their home in Waynesville, MO, while George was stationed at Ft. Leonardwood. In 1956, they moved to a farm northeast of George. On this farm, they raised their family, worked the land and raised livestock until their retirement in 1998. Genola was a devoted wife and loving mother to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her care and concern was felt by many over the years as they shared Genola’s meals and teatime. After George’s death in 2012, Genola continued to reside in George, and in the spring of 2019 became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in George. Genola died this past Saturday, October 23, 2021, at the age of eighty-five.
She is survived by her children, Sharilyn and husband, Paul Reemtsma of Rock Rapids, IA; Marlene and husband, Stan Fluth of Sioux Falls, SD; Brenda and husband, Blair Wetzel of Waverly, NE; Jan and husband, Paul Ritter of Sioux Falls, SD; and Glenn and wife, Darcy Eben of Milford, IA; along with thirteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; sister, Glenda (Clinton) DeBoer of George, IA; brother Eldon (Diane) Klaahsen, of St. Ansgar, IA; many nieces and nephews.
Genola is preceded in death by her parents, John and Anna Klaahsen; husband, George Eben; brothers, Marvin Klaahsen, Wendell Klaahsen; and sister, Lois Klaahsen Arends.
