George Fred Herrmann

Sibley, IA

     George Herrmann age 74 of Sibley, Iowa passed away Saturday, September 26, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family.

     A family led memorial service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 1, 2020 at the First Baptist Church of Sibley with Reverend Doug Noonkester officiating.    

     George Fred Herrmann was born on October 16, 1945 in Sioux City, IA, the son of John and Annie (Brouwer) Herrmann. He grew up in Canton, SD and attended grade school there.

     On September 28, 1966, he was united in marriage to Marla Wright in Canton, SD. The couple made their home there for a time, then moved to Rock Rapids and then Sibley, IA.

     George worked for several dairy farms throughout his life until he was injured by a bull. He attended a Pentecostal Church in Canton, SD in his youth and later in life he served as a Cub Scout leader.

     His hobbies included collecting cans, playing his guitar, a good game of dice, pinnacle, or other board games. He liked lamps and eagles and loved involving his family in all his paper routes.

     Special memories included his 60^th birthday party, trips to the Badlands and Wall Drug, performing at nursing homes and dinner dates with the family singing group “The Herrmann’s” and Christmas gatherings at his mom and dad’s with the whole family.

     He was a good husband, father and grandfather who loved spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed!

     George is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Marla Herrmann of Sibley, IA; six children, Tasha (Doyle) Bos of Sibley, Shondra (Ryan) Rozeboom of Sibley, IA, Aaron Herrmann of Vinton, IA, Sheila (Shannon) Nagel of Doon, IA, Londa Cardillo (friend Brian) of Sibley, IA and Tim (Mindy) Herrmann of Sibley, IA; eighteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; five siblings, Cork Minor of Beloit, IA, Joyce Miles of Canton, SD, Janet (Dean) Miles of Worthing, SD, Rose (John) Ripka of Jasper, MN and Donald (Rose) Herrmann of Lemars, IA; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

      He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Annie Herrmann; twins, Scott and Shellene; son, John; grandson, Isaac; great-grandson, Giovanni; and brothers-in-law, Ron Minor and Bruce Wright.
