     Gertie Feller age 101 of Eagan, Minnesota, formerly of Rock Rapids, Iowa died Saturday, June 6, 2020 at Woodlyn Heights Senior Living in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota.

     Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Thursday, June 11, 2020 at Jurrens Funeral Home in Rock Rapids, Iowa with Reverend Dan Haggar, officiating.  Burial will follow in the Hillside Cemetery at Lester, Iowa.  There will be a live stream link available to view the service on our website at www.jurrensfuneralhome.com prior to the service.      Visitation will be one hour prior to the service with the family present at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.

     Gertie Feller was born on February 14, 1919 in Steen, Minnesota, the daughter of Gilbert and Gertie (Klein) Elbers.  She grew up in the rural Steen, Minnesota area and attended country school.  In 1941 Gertie was united in marriage to Russell Shaffer in Rock Rapids, Iowa.  They lived in Iowa and Nebraska for Russell’s career.  Russell was killed in World War II, leaving Gertie a widow with their daughter, Glenda.  In 1953 Gertie was united in marriage to Wally Feller in Cherokee, Iowa.  She met Wally when she worked at the Golden Rule in Rock Rapids.  They were married for 31 years and raised their family in Rock Rapids.  She and Wally decided to go their separate ways in 1984.  Gertie moved to Eagan, Minnesota in 2014 to be closer to her family.

     Gertie performed domestic work in California and Iowa as a young adult, and spent five years as a cook at the Rock Rapids Health Center.  The joy of her life was her time spent as a babysitter for her kids, grandkids, great-grandchildren, and the special Te Grootenhuis children.  Gertie enjoyed gardening, babysitting, reading, cards, dominoes, cooking, and baking.  She loved country music which included yodeling and was ahead of her time in planting perennial gardens.  She was an avid walker before it became trendy and continued until her stroke in April of 2020. 

     Those left to cherish her memory are her two children, Shauna Feller of Boise, ID, and Kim Feller of Eagan, MN; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; the Te Grootenhuis family; and many cousins and friends.

     She was preceded in death by her daughter, Glenda and her husband Howard Moser; son-in-law, Gary Wirth; parents, Gilbert and Gertie Elbers; five sisters, Johanna, Grace, Hermina, Carrie, and Berdina; and one brother, Gilbert (Bud).
