     Gertrude J. Timmer, age 89 of Ellsworth, MN died Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at the Parkview Manor in Ellsworth.

     Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 15, 2020 at the Bethel Reformed Church rural Little Rock, IA.    

     Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

     Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. until time of service at the church on Saturday.

     Gertrude Jeanette Timmer was born April 5,1931 in Midland Township Lyon County, IA to Klaas and Jennie (DeBoer) Ohling. She grew up on the family farm southwest of Ellsworth, MN and attended country school there.

     On February 27,1952 Gertrude was united in marriage to Arthur J. Timmer at her parents’ home. The young couple made their first home near Rock Rapids, IA, and in November of 1952 they moved to a farm four miles north of Little Rock, IA where they raised their family and lived for over 60 years. Gertrude enjoyed being a homemaker and helping with the farm chores. She raised many chickens and sold many eggs to others during their years on the farm.  She was a Sunday school and Bible school teacher for many years. Gertrude also enjoyed singing in the church choir and was a lifelong member of Bethel Reformed Church. 

     In September of 2013, Art and Gertrude retired from farming and moved to their present home in Ellsworth, MN. Gertrude was able to remain living there until June 5, 2020 when she became a resident of Parkview Manor Nursing Home in Ellsworth, MN due to declining health.  She will always be remembered by her family for her strong determination and love for her family.

     Gertrude is survived by four sons: Arnold (Doris) Timmer of Ellsworth,MN; Verlyn (Karen) Timmer of Ellsworth, MN;  LaVearl (Deb) Timmer of Luverne, MN; Darwin (Darla) Timmer of Ellsworth, MN; and daughter, Luella (Alvin) Smidstra of Rock Rapids, IA; 22 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild, and brother, Orville (Betty) Ohling of Rock Rapids, IA.

     Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband, Art (2015); her parents, Klass and Jennie Ohling; brother, Herman Ohling; son-in-law, Kelly Bosma; sister, Johanna Korthals; and brother-in-law, Albert Korthals.
