     Gloria Jacobsma, age 68, of Rock Rapids, formerly of Doon, passed from this life into her eternal home on Sunday, October 4, 2020 at Sanford Medical Center of Sioux Falls.

     A graveside service will be held at 10:00, Saturday, October 10 at the Hillside Cemetery of Doon.  Pastor Steve Meester will officiate.  Family requests face masks be worn, and social distancing practiced.  Please bring a lawn chair.

     Visitation will be Friday, October 9 from 5:00 to 7:00 at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.  Family will not be present and social distancing guidelines will be followed.  

     Gloria Eileen Jacobsma, was born June 28, 1952 at Canton, South Dakota to Peter and Elsie (Bliek) Jacobsma, the 2nd daughter in a family of 6 children.   She grew up on a farm near Doon.  She was her Dad’s farmhand, enjoying driving tractor and being outdoors.  She loved playing softball, spending time with friends, pulling pranks thru her high school years.  She attended Doon Christian School and Central Lyon High School.  She went on to the Medical Institute of Minneapolis, graduating with a degree as a Lab and X-ray technician.  

     Gloria lived in Emmetsburg where she pursued her career as a lab technician for 10 years.  At that point, mental illness took over her life.  Her later years were spent at Rosewood Heights in Rock Rapids, where she brought great joy to other residents.  She found fulfillment in being a Peer Support Specialist for clients of Hope Haven.  Her last years were spent as a resident of Lyon Specialty Care in Rock Rapids.  

     She was a member of Bethel Reformed Church of Lester.  Gloria loved collecting eagles and was passionate about the Red, White, and Blue.  She enjoyed traveling and was an avid Twins and Vikings fan.  She was a cat lover and enjoyed many years of companionship with her cat “Jingles”.   Her family meant everything to her, especially her nieces and nephews, who fondly called her, “Aunt Go-Go”.  She will be greatly missed.

     Gloria is survived by her 5 siblings:  Doris (Bob) Iwen of Boyden, Marilyn Niemeyer of Doon, Sandi (George) Martin of Bolivar, Missouri, Rod (Bev) of Gregory, South Dakota, Jeff (Pam) of Doon, and  “Love of her life”, Hurley Van Bemmel of Rock Rapids.   

     She is preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers-in-law, John Ruter and Harlan Niemeyer.
