Gloria Prins age 82, of George, IA died Thursday, May 27, 2021, at Sibley Specialty Care in Sibley, IA.

A Memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2021, at Tabernacle Baptist Church in George, IA with Pastor Bryan Anderson, officiating. Burial will be held prior to the service at Holman Township Cemetery at Sibley, IA.

Visitation with the family present will be Tuesday, June 1^st from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Jurrens Funeral Home in George, IA.

Gloria Joan Prins was born on December 25, 1938, in Rock Rapids, IA to John and Bertha (Schoeneman) Ahders. Bertha died tragically when Gloria was only one month old. Two years later, John married Florence Reemtsma, who very lovingly helped raise her.

Gloria graduated in 1957 from George High School. On December 1, 1957, she married Philip H. Prins in Granada Hills, CA. They lived there for 2 years while Phil continued his service in the U.S. Navy. Phil and Gloria returned to the Midwest, and eventually settled in Sibley, IA.

Gloria was employed at the Osceola Community Hospital for over 40 years, starting out as a nurse’s aide and retiring as a department manager. She was a very hard worker and always had a huge garden, canned, and sewed many of her children’s clothes.

Family time was important to her, and she made sure that her family took many day trips to state parks, museums, and area lakes. She looked forward to supporting her children and grandchildren in whatever events they were in. Her children fondly remember the many conversations they shared, whether it was by phone, on walks, or while washing dishes. Gloria will also be remembered for her wonderful pancakes. No one could make them like she did.

She enjoyed reading, flowers of all kinds, birds, painting, drawing, watching Bob Ross, Gaither music, and classical music. Many hours of her time were also spent doing embroidery.

She was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church in George, IA.

Gloria is lovingly remembered by her sister Dorothy (Henry) Bosch, and four children Charlene Long, Flo deBoer, Ardell (Nancy) Prins and Valerie (Erwin) Heber. Also sharing her memory are six grandchildren, Jon (Marji) deBoer, Jennifer (Rich) Cobb, Melissa (Derrick) Nelsen, Anna (Ryan) Dehamer, Meagan (Matt) Heber, and Alex Prins, two great-granddaughters Gabi and Lilly Cobb and baby deBoer.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Philip, her parents, sisters Hertha, Elfriede, Marge, and Gertrude, a brother Herbert, her sons-in-law, Bob deBoer and Steve Long, and an infant son.
