Gracella "Sally" Hendrene Van Wyhe

Steen, MN 

     Gracella “Sally” Van Wyhe age 83 of Steen, MN died Saturday, May 22, 2021 at the Tuff Memorial Home in Hills, MN.

     Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 25^th at Steen Reformed Church of Steen, MN, with Rev. Jeremy Wiersma officiating. Burial will follow at the Eastside Cemetery rural Steen.

     Visitation will be Monday, May 24^th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with the family present at the Steen Reformed Church in Steen, MN.

     The Jurrens Funeral Home of Hills MN is in charge of arrangements.

     In lieu of flowers family prefers memorials be directed to: Tuff Memorial Home or Sanford Luverne Hospice.

     Gracella Hendrene Vander Wolde was born on February 2, 1938 in Lyon County, IA, the daughter of Al and Nellie (Hoff) Vander Wolde. She was raised on several acreages south of Steen, then moved to Hills, MN as a teenager.

     On August 28, 1958, Sally was united in marriage to Harvey Van Wyhe at the Steen Reformed Church in Steen, MN. Most of their forty-seven years were on the Van Wyhe family farm 2 ½ miles east of Hills. Harvey passed away on September 10, 2005.

     As a young woman Sally graded eggs at the Blue Ribbon Hatchery in Hills. Most of her time she was a housewife, farmwife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She also worked odd jobs waitressing and cooking at the Corner Hills Café and worked in housekeeping for the Tuff Memorial Home.

     Sally was a member of the Steen Reformed Church. She loved watching her kids and grandkids HBC school activities. She was an avid supporter of HBC activities and continued to go to volleyball, basketball, and football games even after her family members had graduated.

     Sally loved eating out and had a special schedule meeting friend’s certain day of each week. She will be greatly missed!

     Sally is survived by three children, Stan (Deb) Van Wyhe of Steen, MN, Sandy (Bo) Connell of Cambridge, MN and Starla Scholten of Hills, MN; four grandchildren, Misty (Dustin) Rallis, Trey (Jody) Van Wyhe, Tom (Megan) Scholten and Andrew (Lexi) Scholten; nine great grandchildren, Brock and Zoe Rallis, Owen, Ella and Theo Van Wyhe, Addison and Oliver Scholten and Callahan and Madden Scholten; sister-in-law, Carol (Ed) Gerhke of Hills, MN; and several nieces, nephews and other extended family.

     She was preceded in death by her parents, Al and Nellie Vander Wolde; and husband, Harvey Van Wyhe.
