     Greta Hommes age 87 of Rock Rapids, IA died Friday, November 6, 2020 at Lyon Specialty Care in Rock Rapids, IA.

     Funeral services for family and extended family will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at the First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids with Reverend Dan Haggar officiating. Social distancing guideline will be followed, and masks are recommended.

     Burial will follow in the Riverview Cemetery at Rock Rapids.    

     Visitation will be Monday, November 9^th from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids. Family will not be present.

     Memorial maybe directed to Lester American Legion Auxiliary (Edward Bouwman Post).

     Greta Willemina (Bouwman) Hommes was born on December 20, 1932, the daughter of John and Jacoba (Smit) Bouwman. She was raised on a farm near Lester, where she attended the Clevland #3 Country school and graduated from the 8^th grade.

     On April 15, 1952, she married Hynie P. Hommes at the Bethel Reformed Church in Lester, IA. They lived on the farm northwest of Rock Rapids for 50 years. In 2002, after retirement, they moved to Rock Rapids. She was a homemaker and worked at Lyon Manor for seven years. She was a member of First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids, where she was active in women’s ministries.

     Greta was a kind, gentle person who was devoted to her family and friends. She was a caretaker for her family. She always loved to coffee with everyone. In 2014, she moved to Premiere Estates, and then moved to Lyon Manor in September of 2014.

     Greta is survived by three children, daughter, Marlene (Dale) Vande Kop of Yankton, SD, two sons, Harold Hommes of Winsor Heights, IA and Jerry Hommes of Rock Rapids. Granddaughter, Holly (Chad) Gordon and their two daughters, Annika and Addison all of Yankton, SD and two grandsons, Brant (Marilyn) Vande Kop and Waylon Vande Kop all of Rock Rapids, IA; two sisters-in-law: JoAnn Douglas and Joyce Hommes of Rock Rapids, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

     Family would like to especially recognize JoAnn Douglas and Brenda Vis.

     She was preceded in death by her husband, Hynie; her parents; eight brothers, Edward, Thomas, Walter, Marion, Gradus, Dick, Henry, and John; and five sisters, Anna Boom, Adrianna Synders, Marie Heyman, Mary Jane (infant) and Jeanette (infant).
