Gwen Peters age 86 of Little Rock, Iowa died Friday, July 23, 2021, at Sibley Specialty Care in Sibley, IA.
Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at the First Presbyterian Church in Little Rock, with Pastor Chris Lemmon officiating.
Family and friend will gather at the church at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday and burial will take place prior to the service in the Pleasant View Cemetery of Little Rock.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 27th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Little Rock.
All monetary donations will be directed toward the Alzheimer’s Association of South Dakota.
Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley is in charge of services.
Gwendolyn “Gwen” Ann Peters was born July 3, 1935, in George, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Darlyne (Block) Mahler. She attended George Community School until 7th grade. Her family moved to Little Rock, IA and she graduated from Little Rock High School in 1953. In 1954 they moved back to George, and she worked as an assistant for Dr. Gessford’s office. She also worked for Central Telephone as an operator.
She was united in marriage to Gene Peters on March 15, 1955, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in George. They lived in George briefly before moving back to Little Rock, IA, where she took care of her growing family while Gene owned and operated several businesses. In 1968 Gwen and Gene moved to a farm north of Little Rock where they farmed and raised their five children. When her children were older, she continued her education at Worthington Community College and earned her L.P.N. degree. She began working at Sibley Care Center in Sibley and later transferred to the Osceola Community Hospital to work as an aide in the physical therapy department. In 1996 Gwen and Gene retired and moved to their present home in Little Rock.
She was a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church in Little Rock, active with various church and community organizations and activities. She enjoyed traveling with Gene, reading, flower gardening, and shopping. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
In November of 2020 Gwen entered the Sibley Specialty Care due to failing health. She remained there until this past Friday, July 23, 2021, when she died at the age of 86.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Gene Peters of Little Rock, IA; five children, Kevin (Kelly) Peters of Cincinnati, OH, Kirk (Barb) Peters, Kyle (Cheryl) Peters, Kent (Julie) Peters, all of Little Rock, IA and Gina (Lee) Glasoe of Sioux Falls, SD; seventeen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Janice Mahler of Aurora, CO; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Darlyne Mahler; a brother, Paul Mahler; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Fern Fischer, Vernon Peters, Anna Mae LaCour, Arlene Ubbinga and Jack Peters.
