Rock Rapids, IA Harold Kix, age 89 of Rock Rapids, IA died on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at Ava’s House in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Saturday September 7, 2019 at First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids, IA with Pastor Clyde Teel and Pastor Dan Haggar Officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids, IA. Visitation will be Saturday morning, September 7th from 9:30 AM until the time of service at First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids, IA. Harold Eugene Kix was born January 11, 1930 on the family farm near George, IA to Henry and Ida (Spieker) Kix. He was raised on the farm and received his education attending country school. He helped on the family farm. On March 17, 1952 he was united in marriage to Lucy Vanden Heuvel in George, IA. To this union two daughters were born, Pam and Janet. In June of 1953 Harold entered the United States Army and served in Germany. Upon his return, after working a short time on the family farm, He and Lucy moved to Rock Rapids. Harold became a partner in the local Culligan dealership with John Pap and worked there until his retirement. He was a member of the First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids. Harold enjoyed golfing, playing cards and camping with his family. His daughters have many fond memories of camping and have carried on the tradition in their own families. Harold and Lucy also enjoyed dancing at the VFW in Luverne, MN. They also very much enjoyed traveling south in the winter and becoming snowbirds in AZ for 18 years. Harold was generally a quiet observer, but eager to throw in a quick jab or one liner if an opportunity arose. With health becoming more of a challenge Harold moved to an assisted living facility in Sioux Falls called Grand Living at Lake Lorraine. This past Wednesday Harold passed away at Ava’s Hospice House in Sioux Falls at the age of 89. He is survived by his daughters, Pamela (Thomas) Tille of Rock Rapids, and Janet (Brian) Bartscher of Tea, SD; six grandchildren, Heath (Angela) Tille of River Falls, WI, Bradley (Jill) Tille of Harrisburg, SD, Robert (Gwen) Tille of Brandon, SD, and Eric (Jessica) Tille of Harrisburg, SD; Amanda (Tanan) Woods of Sioux Falls, SD and Emily Bartscher of Tea, SD; 13 great-grandchildren, Braden, Meredith, Lucy, Brooklyn, Lauren, Alex, Emma, Madeline, Brody, Andrew, Adam, Jordan, and Landen. sister, Evelyn Olson of George, IA; brothers, Larry (Linda) Kix of Rock Rapids, IA and Stanley Kix, brother-in-law, Don Rypkema of Sioux Falls, SD; sister-in-law, Jeanetta Kix of Sibley, IA; nieces, nephews and other extended family members. Harold was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lucy; brothers, Frederick, Infant brother, Clifford; sisters, Verna (John) Duin; Mavis Rypkema, Infant sister Florence.
