Henry Deberg

Sibley, IA

   Henry Martin DeBerg, age 89 of Sibley, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at Rock Rapids Health Center.  Henry was born in Little Rock, Iowa on January 9, 1932, the son of Martin and Minnie (Julius) DeBerg. He lived in Little Rock and graduated from Little Rock High School in 1951 .  After graduation,  Henry served in the United States Army from 1952 until 1954, at which time he was honorably discharged.  He was a lifetime member of the Rock Rapids VFW Post 6960.

     On October 29, 1954, Henry was united in marriage to Marjorie A.  Schilling.  The couple settled in Rock Rapids where they resided for 30 years and raised two sons, Hugh and Bradley. Henry worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation for 12 years. He was then employed by Champlin Petroleum for 17 years.  They then moved to Ashton, Iowa where he worked for the Osceola County Maintenance Department for 10 years. Henry retired in 1994 and the couple settled in Sibley.

       Henry was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sibley, serving on several boards.  In 2000, Henry and Marge began to spend their winters in Tucson, Arizona.  Henry loved to golf and play any kind of card game.  Most of all, he loved to visit with friends, family and anyone else.

     Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Minnie; sisters, Grace and Marian, and brother, Kenneth.  Henry is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marjorie;  son’s Hugh (Lynn) of Jesup, Iowa, and Bradley (Stephanie) of Kaysville, Utah; 4 grandchildren, Amanda, Courtney, Katie, and Kyle;  and 2 great-grandsons, Brody and Theodore.

     Friends and family will be received on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 from 5 PM to 7 PM at the First Presbyterian Church in Sibley.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at 10:30 AM at the First Presbyterian Church in Sibley.  Pastor Chris Lemmon will be officiating.  Internment will be in the Holman Township Cemetery at a later date.

     The family requests social distancing at both the visitation and the funeral service.
