Henry C. “Heinie” Julius was born September 21, 1922, in Midland Township to Claus and Anna (Schoneman) Julius. He received his education at Little Rock, IA. He then moved to Sibley, IA. During WWII he enlisted in the United States Navy and served from 1944 to 1946 in the South Pacific. After receiving his discharge, he returned to Sibley. On March 5, 1949 he was united in marriage to Esther Bos at the Bethel Reformed Parsonage. After marriage, the couple farmed near Ellsworth.
Heinie was a farmer through and through. He loved working the land all those years and especially enjoyed helping in his later years to bring the crops to the elevator in town. He had a keen memory and was the family historian. If ever there was a question about their distant relatives or regarding area history, Heinie was the one to go to. He never seemed to forget how families and community were tied together. He enjoyed listening to Polka music very much. Heinie was a member of the Bethel Reformed Church where he served as an elder and deacon for many years.
Henry is survived by his daughter, Kathy (Bob) de Koning of Rock Rapids, IA; two granddaughters: Erin de Koning (Justin Reiter) of Ellsworth, MN and Kristin de Koning of Omaha, NE; one great-granddaughter, Dillon Reiter; brother, Leo (Fay) Julius of Rushmore, MN; sisters, Genevieve Lutterman of Fulda, MN and Shirlene Grote of Sibley, IA; sisters-in-law, Marcella Julius, Audrey Julius, Pauline Peterson, and Joann (George) Ransom; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
