     Ivan H. Staufacker age 91, of George, IA died Sunday, August 26, 2018 at the George Good Samaritan Society.

     A memorial service will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, August 30th at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George, IA, with Rev. Dale Lint officiating.

     Burial will be prior at Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George, IA, with friends and family gathering 10:00 AM at Jurrens Funeral Home of George and will proceed to the cemetery at 10:15 AM for the committal service.

     Visitation will be Wednesday, August 29th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home of George.

 

     Ivan Harold Staufacker, was born August 7, 1927 at home in rural George, Iowa. He was the son of the late Chris and Mattie (Blumeyer) Staufacker. He attended Wheeler #6 country school through 8th grade near his home south of George. Ivan served in the U.S. Army from February 1947 to August 1948. He did his basic training at Ft. Jackson, SC and served as a fireman at Ft. Holabird in Baltimore, MD. After his military service, he returned to the family farm. He was united in marriage to Irene Clara Haupt on February 14, 1960 at the First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, SD. To this union three children were born: Michael, Jennifer and Eric. He farmed with his father until 1965. Ivan and Irene lived on the Staufacker family farm and had a herd of Holsteins for many years until they retired to George in 1994. Ivan worked part-time at Siebring Manufacturing for a number of years, and he served two terms on the George city council. Ivan and Irene served together as volunteers for Meals on Wheels. He was also a volunteer for many years with Hope Haven’s wheelchair repair project in George.

     Ivan was a member of the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George, serving numerous times as elder and as deacon. He was an avid reader and especially enjoyed World War II books and John Grisham novels. He was a collector of Farmall/International Harvester toy tractors. He enjoyed bowling and playing pinochle with his friends. He is remembered by friends and family as a patient man who always had time to help his neighbors both on the farm and in town. He was known as a man who was quick to laugh and slow to anger. He loved dogs and had fond memories of his farm dogs over the course of his life.

     He is survived by three children: Michael of Atlanta, GA, Jennifer and Kyle Hansen of Irene, SD and Eric of George, IA. He is also survived by two grandchildren: Trevor Hansen of De Smet, SD and Erin Hansen of Irene, SD. Ivan is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

   He was preceded in death by his parents, Chris and Mattie Staufacker; his wife of 47 years, Irene Staufacker; siblings, Glennis Staufacker, and Earleen Schroder.
