Jack Joe Dagel was born on June 15, 1947, in Sibley Hospital, the son of Richard and Margaret (Brandt) Dagel. Jack grew up southeast of Sibley where he attended Sibley High School. Later he graduated from Sheldon Vocational College. After that he enlisted in the United States Army for two years and served overseas in Germany. He concluded his service as Army Sergeant E5.
On December 23, 1966, he was united in marriage to Carol Behrens in Sibley, IA. The couple lived in Schwabach, Germany, for a time and then moved back to Ocheyedan. The couple raised three daughters named Sonia, Kristine, and Sherri.
Jack was a devoted steward of the land. He loved watching sunrises and sunsets, jackrabbits, deer, and the many pheasants that frequented the farm. He enjoyed Minneapolis-Moline tractors and watching church services, the Gaither Vocal Band and British comedies on television. He spent much of his time spoiling his dog and cat and could never resist playing with a child. Jack will be remembered fondly for his quick wittedness, a trait he passed down to his children and grandchildren.
Jack is survived by his wife of fifty-four years and eleven months, Carol Dagel of Ocheyedan, IA; three children, Sonia Dagel (children Carly, Jonathan, Gabriela) of East Quogue, NY, Kristine Dagel (child Kristopher) of Dallas, TX, and Sherri (Brian) Dagel Bender (children Blake and Baron) of Park City, UT; six siblings, Gary (Cathy) Dagel, Donna Dagel, Mike (LeAnn) Dagel, Peggy Dagel, Mark (Brenda) Dagel and sister-in-laws Linda Jones and Karen Whitham; nieces, nephews and other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Margret Dagel; four brothers Dennis (Marsha) Dagel, Harold, Donald and John Dagel; and one sister, Patricia.
