Jack Henry Hoogeveen was born on November 20, 1938, in Lester, Iowa, to Henry & Clara (Bick) Hoogeveen. Jack grew up in Doon, Iowa, and graduated from Doon High School in 1956. He attended Northwestern College until his father passed away unexpectedly and he returned home to run his family’s hardware store. To serve his country, Jack joined the Air Force Guard. On October 19, 1962, Jack married Barbara Berg at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. For fifty-nine years, he and Barb enjoyed good times with their friends and family. Jack and Barb spent their winters in Palm Springs, California, where they enjoyed entertaining, golfing and the hot tub.

Jack began his banking career with Lyon County State Bank in 1962 where he held various positions and later became bank president from 1975 until his retirement in 1999. Jack was very active in the community and was a member of the Jaycees, volunteer fire department, and the Congregational Church in Rock Rapids. He enjoyed the outdoors and taking family fishing trips to Cass Lake, Minnesota. Jack was an avid golfer and had 5 hole-in-ones which he would tell you jokingly cost him a lot of money since he had to buy drinks for everyone in the clubhouse.

Jack is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara, his four children, Karen (Bill) Miller, Charles (Maureen) Hoogeveen, Dallas (Darci) Hoogeveen and Kay Hoogeveen. His nine grandchildren, Morgan, Marcy, Karly and Nicholas Miller, Jack, Lona, Ella Hoogeveen, and Klara and Kora Hoogeveen, his sister, Muriel LeMonds, sisters-in-law Marj Wells and Nancy Onerheim, other extended family including many nieces and nephews, and caregivers Caren Berenschot and Abby Metzger.

Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Clara Hoogeveen, brother, Jim Hoogeveen and sister, Gwen Ditzel.
