     James "Jim" Haviland, age 100, of Rock Rapids, IA, died on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at George Good Samaritan Home in George, IA.

     Visitation will be Friday, March 3, 2023, from 12:00 to 2:00 PM with the family present at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids.

     Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday, March 3, 2023, at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Matt Polsdofer, officiating.  Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids.

     James Arthur Haviland was born on September 6, 1922, in Rock Rapids, IA, to Edgar and Emma (Boll) Haviland. James grew up in the Rock Rapids area where he attended school.  He started his career as a Farmer and went on to work for various area farmers before starting on his own. He was united in marriage to Mildred Dengler on December 30, 1952, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, IA. They made their home on a farm south of Rock Rapids, IA, where they raised their 2 children Bonnie and Becky.  James was a dedicated husband, father and farmer.  He enjoyed working the land, tending to his livestock and simply taking care of his family and farm.  He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, where he had served his church as a Deacon and also on the church council.  He always had a garden, loved tending to his roses and when possible, he would find time to go fishing at Round Lake, MN.  Jim was an avid Chicago Cubs and Minnesota Vikings Fan.  During his retirement years he worked for Rexall Drug as a delivery driver, he continued this work until he was 97.  He also worked for Farmers Elevator, delivering supplies to the fields and earned a nickname as "Coach."  On January 30, 2023, he became a resident of the George Good Samaritan Society where he died this past Wednesday evening, February 22, 2023, at the age of 100.

      James is survived by his two daughters, Bonnie Haviland of Rock Rapids and Becky (Gregory) Jansen of Alton, IA; four grandchildren, Noah (Sybil) Jansen, Laura Jansen, Isaiah (Ashley) Jansen and Micah (Katelyn) Jansen; great grandchildren, Adin, Abigail, Brantley, Connor and Marcy; and sister, Elaine Jenkins of Florida.

      James is preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Emma Haviland; wife, Mildred; and 3 brothers, Don, Howard and Robert.
