He and his family moved six miles east of the Cedar Cabin and during that time he went to school in Melvin for two years. They then moved back to the home place and Jim attended Dale Township #1 country school and later graduated from George High School in 1960. After graduating Jim worked for Fred Vaupel Tiling for two years and worked road construction for two years. He served in the U.S. Army serving from 1964 to 1966, including a tour in Vietnam during this time. He was also very active in the surrounding communities, serving on several boards such as the Farm Credit Board and the Ashton State Bank Board. The joy of his life was spending time with his grandchildren, fishing and teaching them things, such as how to drive.
