     James “Jim” Martin, age 78 of Sibley, Iowa died Monday, January 22, 2024, at Ava’s House in Sioux Falls, SD.

     A Private Funeral Service for the family will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at the Jurrens Funeral Home in Sibley, Iowa, with Pastor Steve Swenson, officiating.  Burial will follow in the Holman Township Cemetery of Sibley.

     A public visitation will be held on Friday, January 26th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with the family present at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley.

     James Jacob Martin was born on February 1, 1945, in Bismarck, ND to Fred and Anna (Werre) Martin of Tappen, ND being the 5th of seven children.  

     He graduated from Tappen High School in 1962.  He married his high school sweetheart, Karen Hackman, daughter of Ralph and Alice Hackman, on July 31, 1965.  They then moved to Sioux Falls, SD where Jim attended Augustana University while also working for Austad Golf Equipment.  Following graduation in 1969, Jim continued working at Austad’s before he began his career in the agricultural field selling livestock feed and animal health products.  He worked for Continental Grain/Hubbard Feeds for 37 years.  During his career, he won many awards including the Pace Setter Award in 1998 for outstanding sales and approximately 25 + company trips to beautiful resort areas all over the country including a cruise to the Bahamas.  He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.

     Jim enjoyed fishing, bowling, golfing, and gardening along with spending many hours keeping their lawn beautiful.  Jim and Karen also enjoyed traveling and were able to travel to all 50 states (Alaska three times), Canada, Mexico, Australia, and New Zealand.

     Jim enjoyed attending his grandkids’ sporting events and extracurricular activities.  He attended as many of their functions as possible.  He was so very proud of each one of their achievements and their success in their chosen careers.  He deeply loved his family and loved spending time with each one of them.

     Jim is survived by his wife of 58 ½ years, Karen, their daughters Tammy and Mark Green of Sibley, IA, and Jamie and Lance Cushman of Spencer, IA.  Four grandchildren, Samantha and Matthew Boothby of Cherokee, IA; Hunter Cushman and friend Alyssa of Ankeny, IA; Kyle Green and friend Kaylee of Bloomington, MN; Ryan Green and friend Carly of Grimes, IA; and Grandpa Jim’s two precious little great-granddaughters, Finley James and Ivy Lucille Boothby of Cherokee, IA.  Two sisters, Janice, and Arnold Hoff of Fargo; Cindy and Quentin Carlson of West Fargo; and brother, Donald Martin of Bismarck; sister-in-law, Crystal Martin of Bismarck, and brother-in-law, Albert Wolf of Jamestown, ND.  Two brothers-in-law Robert Hackman of Bismarck and Paul Vincent of Eagle River, Alaska; one sister-in-law Candace Jasper of Bismarck and many nieces and nephews.       

     Jim was proceeded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Ellen Martin, grandson Matthew James Green; his parents Fred and Anna Martin; a brother, Hilbert Martin; two sisters, Lillian Wolf, and Marilyn Lott; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Ralph and Alice Hackman; sister-in-law Diane Vincent and brother-in-law Dale Hackman.
