     Janice Delfs age 85 of Rock Rapids, IA, died Sunday, January 30, 2022 at Avera Merrill Pioneer Hospital in Rock Rapids.

 Funeral service will be 1:00 PM, Thursday, February 3^rd at Peace Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, IA, with Rev. Alex Sloter officiating.  Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids.

  Visitation will be Wednesday, February 2^nd from 4:00 to 8:00 PM with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.

     Janice Marie Delfs was born January 11, 1937, in Luverne, Minnesota, the daughter of John and Martha (Thompson) Paulsen. She was brought home to the family farm in a horse drawn sleigh. Janice was baptized at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hills. Janice grew up on the family farm in Steen, MN. She attended Steen and Hills community schools.

     While roller-skating with her friends she met her husband to be, Raymond C. Delfs. They were united in marriage on August 27, 1955, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Her husband was in active duty with the U.S. Navy, so they lived in Port Hueneme, CA until Raymond was deployed. She returned to Minnesota where she lived with her parents until her husband’s return. Together they lived near Renner, SD and eventually moved back to Rock Rapids and farmed and raised livestock the rest of his working years. In 2001, they retired from farming and moved to a new home in Rock Rapids, IA.

     She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids. She enjoyed baking and camping with her husband, while attending Polka festivals with her husband and working in the yard.

     On September 30, 2021, Janice’s husband of 66 years died due to several years of failing health. Janice died unexpectedly four months later.

She is survived by her six children, Debra Vanden Bosch of Sioux Falls, SD, Kae (Dave) Warren Sr. of Rock Rapids, IA, Darlene (Randy) Vanden Heuval of Sioux Falls, SD, Buddy (Shawn) Delfs of Le Mars, IA, Randall (Jodi) Delfs of Hardwick, MN and Rodney (Sara) Delfs of Rock Rapids, IA; many grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Eunice (John) McCarty of Larchwood and Pat Paulsen of Hills, MN; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

     She was preceded by her parents, John and Martha Paulsen; parents-in-law, Henry and Anna Delfs; brother, Jack Paulsen; infant sister; grandson, Jamison, Delfs; and son-in-law, Leonard Vanden Bosch.

     Janice was blessed to have many special friends and neighbors.
