Jean M. Klein age 92 of Rock Rapids, Iowa died Monday, July 27, 2020 at Good Samaritan Society in George, Iowa.
A private family service will be held Thursday, July 30, 2020 at Peace Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, Iowa. Burial will follow in the Christ Lutheran Cemetery in Alvord, Iowa.
Public visitation will take place Wednesday, July 29th from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids. There will be no family present.
Jean Margaret Klein was born July15, 1928 in LeMars, Iowa to John and Lillian (Utech) Pech. She moved to Brandon, South Dakota as a young girl where she attended school. She worked in a cookie factory and then at Schrivers Department Store in Sioux Falls. She met her future husband at the Arkota Ball Room. Jean was united in marriage to Earl. A. Klein on June 6, 1948. They moved to the family farm North of Alvord, Iowa. They were blessed with five children, Marvin, David, Steven, Cynthia, and Randy. She became a member of the Christ Lutheran Church in Alvord. Jean was a Sunday and Bible school teacher for many years. She enjoyed cooking and she was famous for her orange chiffon cake and sour cream chocolate cake. Jean also enjoyed needlework, quilting, fishing, gardening, and her dog. Jean liked going to quilting at church, tour trips, and making stocking caps for the local schools. After retiring, Earl and Jean moved to Rock Rapids, Iowa. They became members of the Peace Lutheran Church. They lived in Rock Rapids for 25 years. On December 28, 2017 Jean moved to Good Samaritan Nursing Home in George, Iowa, due to her declining health. She enjoyed the activities and fellowship during her stay there. Her family will remember her as nurturing and welcoming of all.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Marvin (Jennell) Klein of Rock Valley, IA, David (Gloria) Klein of Sioux City, IA, Steven (Betty) Klein of Emmons, MN, Cynthia (Larry) Marra of George, IA; 8 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl; son, Randy; sisters, Evelyn Weber and Dorothy Larson; one great grandchild; and all of her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
She will be dearly missed by all.
