Jennie Vande Kop - Hanson

     Jennie Vande Kop - Hanson, age 96 of Rock Rapids, IA died on October 2, 2018 at Lyon Specialty Care in Rock Rapids, IA.

     A private family burial will be held at a later date at Graceland Park Cemetery in Sioux City, IA.

     Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids is in charge of arrangements.

     Jennie Elizabeth was born August 18, 1922 at Rock Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Fritz and Johanna (Van Houten) Koelman.  She was raised in Rock Rapids. 

     Jennie was married to William Vande Kop on February 18, 1941 and they farmed southwest of Rock Rapids.  On April 1, 1955 Jennie’s husband, William died. 

    She began working as a clerk at the Iowa State Soil Conservation Office in Rock Rapids in 1960.  During that time she met Laurence Hanson and the two were married in Sioux City, IA on March 7, 1970.  They lived in Sloan, IA until 1993, when they returned to Rock Rapids, IA.  On April 8, 2009 Jennie’s husband Laurence died.  Jennie remained living in their home until December of 2017, when she entered Lyon Specialty Care in Rock Rapids.  She remained there until her death, this past Tuesday, October 2, 2018.

     She is survived by her son, Dale (wife Marlene) Vande Kop of Yankton, SD; three grandchildren, Holly (husband Chad) Gordan of Yankton, SD, their children, Annika and Addison, Brant (wife Marilyn) Vande Kop of Rock Rapids and Waylon Vande Kop of Rock Rapids, IA; a sister-in-law, Gloria Van Gelder of Big Sandy, TN; and other extended family.

     Jennie was preceded in death by her parents; her step-father; 1^st husband, William Vande Kop; 2^nd husband, Laurence Hanson; three brothers, Jake, Tom and Melvin Van Gelder; and two sisters, Gertrude Van Dyke and JoAnn Elbers.
