      Jerry Viereck, age 78 of Larchwood, IA died Thursday, May 23, 2019 at the Sanford Hospice Cottage in Sioux Falls, SD, following a courageous battle with Cancer.

     Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Tuesday, May 28th at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood, IA, with Father Francis Makwinja as Celebrant.

     Burial will follow at the Larchwood Cemetery.

     Visitation will be Monday, May 27th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood. Also, there will be a Parish Vigil Service at 7:00 PM Monday night at the church.

     Jurrens Funeral Home of Larchwood is handling arrangements.

     Jerry Viereck was born June 27, 1940 in Larchwood, Iowa, the son of Alfred and Josephine (Doherty) Viereck. He was raised in Larchwood and attended St. Mary’s Catholic School, graduating in 1957. After his education he began working at John Morrell’s Foods in Sioux Falls, SD and was employed there for the next 29 years. Later he was employed at Grand Labs in Larchwood until his retirement in 2004.

     On October 7, 1961 Jerry was united in marriage to Barbara Cranny at St. John’s Church in Plankinton, SD. They lived in Larchwood their entire marriage and were blessed with four children. Jerry was a lifelong member of St. Mary Church. He enjoyed hunting, playing and watching baseball, gardening, family vacations and attending family sports functions. He was an avid Green Bay Packer and NY Yankee fan. Jerry especially enjoyed golf and played Thursday night Men’s League with his partner, Barney Snyder for 40 years.

   Jerry was diagnosed with cancer in 2016 and courageously battled the disease until this past Thursday, May 23, 2019, when he died at the age of 78.

     Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 57 years, Barbara Viereck of Larchwood, IA; three children,

Tim (Suzie) Viereck of Larchwood, IA; Terry (Mary) Viereck of Larchwood, IA; Todd Viereck of Sioux Falls, SD; Son in Law Neil Warner, Larchwood, IA. 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. His Siblings; Harold (Janet) Viereck of Sioux Falls, SD, John (Gale) Viereck of Larchwood, IA, Leola Steenblock of Larchwood, IA and Vicky (Brad) Bauer of Larchwood, IA; a sister-in-law, Becky Viereck of Larchwood, IA; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

     He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Josephine Viereck; his daughter, Michelle Warner; two brothers, Alfred Viereck Jr. and William Viereck and his twin sister Janet Rutten.
