Joan Plehall age 85 of Sibley, IA died September 27, 2019 at Sibley Specialty Care Center in Sibley, IA.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Sibley, IA, with Msr. Seifried, officiating.
Burial will follow at St. Andrew’s Catholic Cemetery in Sibley, IA.
Visitation will be Monday, September 30th from 5:00 to 8:00 PM with family present. A Rosary service will take place at 5:00 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley.
Joan Norma (Kruger) Plehall was born on March 7, 1934 to Henry H. and Lena (Norman) Kruger. Joan went to country school and then graduated from Sibley High School in 1952.
Joan worked various jobs including the Chamber of Commerce, Attig Real Estate and Insurance, and later Chase Bag Company and Sibley Care Center, to name a few.
Joan met the love of her life Paul Plehall and they were married on December 28, 1953. To this union four children were born.
Joan enjoyed baking and decorating cakes, knitting and crocheting, including afghans for all of her children and grandchildren. Her and Paul were avid golfers, and on any given day you would find them golfing at the Sibley Golf and Country Club. They played many tournaments in various towns. In 1992 Joan achieved her very first hole in one on the Sibley course, and then a second hole in one in 1998 at the Sanborn Golf and Country Club. Joan was also active in Womens’ Golf League for many years. Joan was an active member of St. Andrews Catholic Church, she belonged to the St. Andrews Guild and the Catholic Daughters of America. She worked many funerals and found great joy in helping others.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Patty (Jim) Terpstra of Sibley, IA and Sandy (Terry) De Graaf of Sanborn, IA; sons Jim (Bonnie) Plehall of Sibley, IA and David (Jen) Plehall of Cedar Rapids, IA; grandchildren, Erin (Arron) Hawkes of Ft. Worth, TX, Josh (Ashlee) Terpstra of Sibley, IA, Cody (Ada) De Graaf of Arnolds Park, IA, Tracy (Dean) Haspels of Hartley, IA, Jason (Stacey) Noyes of Sibley, IA, Megan (Jeremy) Wulf of Ocheyedan, IA, Hannah, Ella and Cara Plehall of Cedar Rapids, IA; 10 great-grandchildren, soon to be 11; and sister-in-law, Dolores Roberts of Casper, WY; also several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Paul, her husband of 59 years; sisters, Maggie Luitjens and Darlene Buchholtz; and her precious great grandson Cole Haspels.
