John H. Blumeyer, age 86, of Hastings, MN died on Wednesday, May 2, 2018, surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral service will be held at 4:00p.m. Saturday, May 5, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church, 602 Vermillion Street in Hastings. MN with Reverend Steve Robertson officiating.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church.
George, IA
Interment, with Military Honors provided by American Legion Jack Sauter Post #404 will be held at Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George, Iowa on Sunday, May 6th at 1:00 p.m.
John Harold Blymeyer was born May 7, 1931 in Boyden, Iowa to Chris and Pauline (Walp) Blumeyer. He was a graduate of Boyden, Iowa High School, class of 1948 and attended Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa. He also attended the Minneapolis Institute of Design. John enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1950, serving four years during the Korean War, prior to receiving his honorable discharge in 1954. John was a proud recipient of a Letter of Appreciation from the Korean Government on the 50th anniversary of the Korean War. John was united in marriage to Carolyn Geerdes on February 27, 1953 in George, Iowa, and they enjoyed 65 years of marriage. He was employed with Koch Refinery, later named Flint Hills as an Industrial Designer for 31 years, prior to his retirement. He was a 55- year active member of First Presbyterian Church in Hastings. John enjoyed golf, gardening, fishing, traveling with Carolyn, and anything in the outdoors. He especially enjoyed the friendship of those in his special coffee group. His family was everything to John and he greatly enjoyed the many visits and family events over the years.
John is survived by his wife, Carolyn; brother Verdean (Lorna) Blumeyer of Sheldon, Iowa; brothers in law, Kenneth (Elaine) Geerdes and Loren (Charlotte) Geerdes; also many special nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Shirley Moss; brother, Donald Blumeyer; brother in law, Glenis Geerdes (Donna); sister in law Darlene Blumeyer and niece, Pamela Vander Linden.
