John Eben age 91, of George, IA died Saturday, August 10, 2019 at the Avera Merrill Pioneer Hospital in Rock Rapids, IA.
The Funeral service will be 10:30 Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at First Baptist Church of George, IA (4102 190th St, George, IA 51237) with Rev. Dr. Mike Hagan and Travis Remme officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George.
Visitation will take place on Monday the 12th from 4:00 till 8:00 PM with family present at the First Baptist Church of George.
In Lieu of flowers family wish memorials that will be directed to the residents and staff of the George Good Samaritan Care Center.
John Eben was born October 15, 1927 to Andrew and Alice (Winter) Eben on a farm west of Little Rock. He spent his youth helping with chores on the farm and worshiping at First Baptist Church of George. He attended Little Rock Independent #2 country school and graduated from the 8th grade. He worked for various farmers in the rural community.
In March of 1951 he was drafted into the United States Army. He proudly served his country for 2 years and was stationed overseas in France for 18 months.
On March 2nd, 1953 he was united in marriage to Florence Kruger. They spent the first ten years of their marriage living on a farm north of Little Rock where their family grew to four children. In 1963 they moved to a farm west of Little Rock where they farmed until retiring to George in 1995. He became a resident of the George Good Samaritan Nursing Home in 2017.
“Gramps” was an amazing husband, dad, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend. More than anything, he loved watching his family grow up and enjoyed every minute of being a grandpa and great grandpa.
He never complained, loved telling jokes and enjoyed meeting people on bus tours. But most importantly, he was a man of God. He was the best example to all of us. We love you “Gramps”. Thanks for the many memories. Til we meet again…..
He is survived by his wife Florence Eben of George, IA; sons, Alan (Judy) Eben of Little Rock, IA, and Jeff (Cindy) Eben of Rock Rapids, IA; daughters, Jo (Dan) Block of Adrian, MN, and Lori (Steve) Johnson of Little Rock, IA; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; sister, Ann (Gordy) Larson of Broken Arrow, OK; brother, Harold (Helen) Eben of George, IA; sister, Mary (Ray) Burnett of Rapid City, SD; sisters-in-law, Irene Eben of Avon, SD and Genola Eben of George, IA; nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Alice; brothers, Andrew, Henry, Martin and George; sister, Tillie Webber; and great-granddaughter, Oaklyn Remme.
