John Gilbert Gerber

Doon, IA 

     John Gerber age 85, of Doon, IA died Friday, October 11, 2019, at the Avera Merrill Pioneer Hospital in Rock Rapids, IA.

     Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 16^th at the Apostolic Christian Church in Lester, IA.

     Burial will follow at the Apostolic Christian Cemetery rural Lester, IA.

     Visitation will be Tuesday, October 15^th with family present from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and again from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Apostolic Christian Church Fellowship Hall in Lester, IA.

     John Gilbert Gerber was born on July 21, 1934, near Larchwood, IA, the son of Theodore “Ted” and Emma (Feucht) Gerber. He grew up on a farm near Larchwood. He attended school in Lester and later graduated from Lester High School in 1952. On October 2, 1953, John was united in marriage to Donna Moser on her family’s farm near Larchwood. John served in the Air National Guard until honorable discharge on March 5, 1959. John and Donna farmed for a time until 1985, when they moved to Mesa, AZ where they lived for fifteen years. While they lived in Arizona, John worked as an RV mechanic. After retiring in 2000, they moved back to the Doon, IA area.

     John was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church. His hobbies included gardening, carpentry, fishing and auto mechanics.

     John is survived by five children: Jeff (Shelley) Gerber of Queen Creek, AZ, Greg (Wanda) Gerber of Rock Valley, IA, David (Sherryl) Gerber of Yuma, AZ, Sheryl (Tom Jr.) Bouwman of Rock Rapids, IA and Cindi (Brian) Blankespoor of Rock Valley, IA; nineteen grandchildren and thirty-eight great-grandchildren; six siblings: Robert (Nancy) Gerber of Lester, IA, Ernest Gerber of Danville, IN, Wayne Gerber of Mansfield, OH, Pauline Teubel of Dunlap, IL, William (Erma) Gerber of Lester, IA and James (Marleen) Gerber of Larchwood, IA; many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

     He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Donna; two sisters-in-law, Sharon and Dorothy Gerber; and brother-in-law, David Teubel.
