Sibley, IA 

     John Huls Jr. age 81, of Sibley, Iowa died Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at the Osceola Regional Hospital in Sibley.

     Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 27th at the St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Sibley, with Father Siby Punnoose as celebrant.

     Burial will be in the St. Andrew’s Catholic Cemetery of Sibley.

     Visitation will be Monday, December 26th from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley.  There will be a rosary at 5:30 p.m.

     John Huls Jr. was born on February 19, 1941, in Worthington, MN, the son of John Sr. and Reka (Kor) Huls.  He grew up living in several different places in Southwestern Minnesota. 

     On August 20, 1961, he was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Hatting in Adrian, MN and to this union six children were born, Mike, Karen, Kenny, Keith, Kathy, and Kevin.

The couple made their home in Sibley, IA, where John worked as the chief of police from 1968 to 1973, when he resigned and started “Huls Carpet and Flooring”.  In 1980, he joined the Osceola Sheriff’s Department as a Deputy Sheriff and continued his carpet and flooring work on the side.

     John was a member of the St. Andrew’s Catholic Church.  He enjoyed wood working, mowing his lawn, playing cards, and especially spending time with his children and grandchildren.

     Left to cherish his memory are five children, Mike Huls of Sibley, IA, Karen (Merlin) Doorenbos of Sibley, IA, Kenny (Lisa) Huls of Sibley, IA, Keith (Brenda) Huls of Sgt. Bluffs, IA, and Kevin (Val) Huls of Sioux Falls, SD; special friend of the family, Bob Hendrix of Sioux Falls, SD; thirteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one sister, Darleen Stofferan of Sibley, IA; many nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

     He was preceded in death by his parents, John Sr. and Reka Huls; wife, Shirley Huls; daughter, Kathy King; infant grandson, Adam Huls; daughter-in-law, Diane Huls; two brothers, Jim, and Maynard Huls; and one sister, Carol Luitjens.
