Johnnie Lee King was born December 15, 1940, the son of John Henry and Dorothy Ethel (Wright) King in Primghar, Iowa.  He grew up in Sibley and graduated from Sibley High School in 1959.  Johnnie was united in marriage to Lorraine Faye Christians on June 25, 1963.  Johnnie and Lorraine lived in El Paso, Texas while he served in the United States Army until 1966.  They raised their three children in Sibley, Iowa.  Johnnie worked for the glass company in Sibley before becoming an insurance adjuster for 17 years at Gaarder Insurance.  After Lorraine’s passing in 1986, Johnnie moved to Greeley, Colorado and received his bachelor’s degree in Sociology and continued his studies to receive his master's degree in psychology.  He graduated from Regis University, Denver in 2000.  After his graduation he moved to Royal, Iowa and was a psychotherapist.  He also worked at Bomgaars in Spencer, which he enjoyed.

Johnnie was a member of the Salem Reformed Church in Little Rock, where in the past was a treasurer of the Sunday school, and head usher. In the past, he was also a member of the Royal City Council.  He was a master at tinkering.  He enjoyed cars and riding motorcycle.  He took pride in the 1960 Chevy Bel-Air he restored to look like a car he had when he was a kid.  He was inspired by bald eagles.  He was very family focused and enjoyed spending time with them.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children: son, Paul King of Garretson, SD and his children, Hayden and Kaycie; daughter, Deborah (Scott) Clark of West Yellowstone, MT, and their children, Sky and Benjimin; and son, Daniel King of Harrisburg, SD and his children, Asher and Rogan; sister, Sylvia Grinde of Aurora, CO; close friend, Kay Carlson of Storm Lake, IA; along with extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Dorothy; wife, Lorraine King; brother, Edward King; and daughter-in-law, Jodi King.
