Judy Anne Gustafson

Rock Rapids, Iowa 

     Judy Gustafson, age 81, of Rock Rapids, Iowa, died Saturday, October 7, 2023, at her home in Rock Rapids, Iowa. 

     A Celebration of Life will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, October 10th at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, IA, with Rev. Matt Polsdofer officiating.

     Private family viewing will be at 10:00 AM at Peace Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids with burial to follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids.

     Judy Anne Gustafson was born June 12, 1942 in George Iowa to William and Mina Ver Hoef and passed away October 7, 2023.

     Judy attended grade school in George, Iowa until the family moved to Rock Rapids in January, 1956. Judy was a member of the first Doon-Rock Rapids school consolidation class to graduate from Central Lyon High School in 1960.

     Judy married Bob Weins in 1964 and son, Matt, was born October 8, 1965. She began her working career at Thiesen's Meat Market, dental assistant for Dr. Fisch, employee at Pettengill Lumber and Paint and the City of Rock Rapids as Deputy Clerk and then advanced into the City Administrator position until her retirement in 1998.

     Judy was united in marriage to C.J. "Gus" Gustafson on July 25, 1998. Gus died in 2011.

Judy was very active in the Community. She was a life-time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Mural Society, Riverview Cemetery Board, Poets Club, delivered "Meals on Wheels" and a dedicated volunteer at "Lost But Found Store" for many years.

     Judy is survived by son Matt, daughter-in-law Karen, granddaughters Olivia and Anna, sisters Wilma Miller and Karen Olson, brother-in-law Denton Olson, sister-in-law Carol Ver Hoef and step children Scott and Sally Gustafson, Shelly and Tony Peterson and John and Jill Chalstrom and step-grandchildren Ryan, Tyler, Troy, Nicole, Andrew, Calvin and Eleanor, nieces, nephews, Special Cousins, and many dear friends.

     She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mina Ver Hoef; husband, C.J. Gustafson; a brother, Floyd Ver Hoef; and brother-in-law, Gene Miller.
