June M. Waagmeester

      June M. Waagmeester, age 93, of Rock Rapids, IA, died on Sunday, February 25, 2024, at her residence in Rock Rapids, IA.

      Visitation will be Thursday, February 29th from 4:00 - 6:00 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home in Rock Rapids.

     Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Friday, March 1, 2024, at The Rock Church in Rock Rapids, with Rev. Travis Remme officiating.  Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids, IA.

June Marilyn (Stewart) Waagmeester was born on February 28, 1930, at Rock Rapids, IA to parents Walter and Bertha (Davison) Stewart.   She attended school in Rock Rapids and was a 1948 graduate and voted Homecoming Queen. On January 30, 1949, she was united in marriage to Gordon Waagmeester at Rock Rapids, Iowa.  In 1950, she joined the working world as a telephone operator and was later fired for becoming pregnant.  June enjoyed being a Cub Scout Leader in the 1960’s, was an active member of the United Methodist Church and later The Rock Community Church in Rock Rapids. The 1980’s had June working for a local photographer and opening her own business.  Her in home daycare lasted thirty years helping to raise countless Rock Rapids and area youth.  June loved her family and the time they spent together, she loved dogs and anything to do with nature or birds (on her last Mother’s Day she asked to go for a car ride and look for bald eagles).

June is survived by her son, Jerry Waagmeester; two daughters: Melinda Waagmeester and Lori (Dan) Kahl; two granddaughters; four grandsons; two great granddaughters; two great grandsons.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gordon Waagmeester; a son, James Waagmeester; a daughter, Julie Heaton; and all her brothers and sisters.
