Kathy Odens was born to parents Ben and Lois (Larson) Odens on September 5, 1956 in Sibley, IA. She grew up and attended school in Ellsworth and was a 1974 graduate of Ellsworth High School. Kathy went to work for a short time at Ben Franklin, Sibley State Bank and then for the next 43 years at Domeyer Implement in Ellsworth, MN. She was united in marriage to Mark Perkins on September 17, 1983 at the First Presbyterian Church in Little Rock, IA. The couple then settled in Ellsworth where they made their home. Anyone who knew Kathy knew just how kindhearted she was, especially with little children. She could be seen walking with the neighbor kids and sometimes pulling them in a wagon. Often when at work, she would buy the kids a treat with a quarter.
Kathy Loved to visit with people and always had a smile for whoever she was greeting. She could be seen in long conversations with local farmers and went to many visitation to catch up with the local goings on. Just going to town was a fun activity for Kathy and shopping with her special friend Mady Miller made it extra special. She could be seen visiting with all the shop owners who she knew personally. She loved yardwork and cleaning and decorating the house. Kathy was never hateful and always forgiving in her nature. With Kathy, you got what you got…she was genuine. Not a fake bone in her body. Some of her loves included collecting dolls, snowmen, dishes and antiques. She was always a major helpmate to her husband Mark. She will be sorely missed by her family, friends and community. (Not to mention her great friend Dorothy Domeyer who had a phone conversation with Kathy every day.)
Kathy is survived by her husband Mark of Ellsworth, MN; two sisters Connie Harms of Little Rock, IA and Bonnie Venenga of Rock Rapids, Ia. a sister-in-law Joleen Odens of Little Rock; three brothers-in-law Jim (Sylvia) Perkins of WI, John (Nicolette) Perkins of MO and David (Geneva)Perkins of AZ; a special friend Mady (Domeyer) Miller; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother Rod, two brothers-in-law, Ron Venenga and Wendell Harms; and a nephew, Chad Harms.
