NOTICE: Sibley, IA Kenneth Hansen age 92 of Sibley, IA, died Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at the Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley, IA. A Memorial service will take place at 2:00 PM, Sunday, July 15, 2018 at the United Methodist Church in Sibley, IA, with Pastor Steve Swenson officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM until the hour of service at the United Methodist Church in Sibley. In lieu of flowers family wish memorials be made to the Sibley Golf and Country Club. Kenneth E. Hansen was born August 15, 1925 in Duluth, MN, the son of Harold and Hilda (Kragenbrink) Hansen. As a very young man his family moved to Sioux Falls, SD where he graduated from Washington High School in 1944. It is there that Kenneth met and fell in love with his future wife, Darlene Higgins. He began his college career in Brookings, SD, but that was quickly interrupted after only one semester due to an all expense paid trip to Germany where he served his country in the United States Army. Kenneth was wounded in action in Germany on January 10, 1945. He Received the Purple Heart and several combat citations from serving in the Rhineland and Ardennes, campaigns. His wounds were so severe that he spent the next few months in a hospital in France. After the war he restarted his college career and attended the Indianapolis Chiropractic College. Kenneth emerged from that school as a Dr. of Chiropractic. While in Indianapolis he married his high school sweetheart on March 9, 1946. In 1952 they moved to Sibley where they began Kenneth’s practice and raised their family. Dr. Hansen served his beloved community as a Chiropractor for over 40 years retiring on May 1, 1995. Kenneth was a long time member of the Sibley Rotary Club, Kiwanis as well as a 55 year member of the Sibley Golf and Country Club. Kenneth had many other interests. He especially enjoyed hunting and fishing, bowling and golf. Over the years, many happy memories were spent with family and friends in the fields and lakes or on the course. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sibley. This past Wednesday, June 13th, Kenneth passed away at the age of 92. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by three children: Susan (Leonard) Boneschans of Sheldon, IA, Dave (Linda) Hansen of New Ulm, MN and Jeff (Arla) Hansen of Sioux Falls, SD; six grandchildren: Stephanie Hansen, Stacy (Kurt) Schroeder, Wendy (Peter) Guggisberg, Abbie (Jeff) Cornelius, Kim (Nathan) Hoekstra and Whitney Hansen, and eight great-grandchildren; and six nieces and nephews. Ken was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of seventy-one years, Darlene; sister, Joann.
