Kim G. Kimmel

Rock Rapids, Iowa

     Kim Kimmel age 73, of Magnolia, MN died Thursday, February 4, 2021, Avera Merrill Pioneer Hospital in Rock Rapids, IA.

     Funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at Peace Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids with Rev. Alex Sloter officiating. Burial will follow at the Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids.

     Social distancing and mask guidelines will be followed at the church.

     Public visitation will be the day of service, Tuesday, from 12:30 PM until the time of service at 2:00 PM at Peace Lutheran in Rock Rapids.

     Kim Gottfried Kimmel was born April 23, 1947 in Saginaw, MI to Gottfried and Virginia (Harding) Kimmel.  He was raised and graduated from high school in Saginaw and continued his education with seven years of apprenticeship with the GM company as a pattern maker.  He met and fell in love with Kathy Shoeneman who was teaching at a Lutheran school in Saginaw.  The couple wed on December 18, 1970.  In 1974 they moved to Kathy’s grandparents’ farm.  Kim had visited the farm with his wife and had fallen in love with the farming lifestyle.  He farmed until 2007 when he retired. 

     Kim enjoyed cars, fishing, collecting car and tractor toys, spending time with his family, and restoring old tractors.  He had a shop in Adrian, MN, where his son Jim works in this shop today, carrying on with Kim’s  hobbies and work.  

    Kim and Kathy are members of Peace Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids.

     He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Kathy Kimmel; son, Jim Kimmel of Sioux Falls, SD; sister, Rita (Gerald) Garner of West Branch, MI; and other extended family members.

     Kim was preceded in death by his parents; son, Tim Kimmel; and sister, Donna Ruff.
