Lanny Winter age 74, of Boyden, Iowa, died Monday, October 25, 2021, at Sanford Medical Center in Sheldon, IA.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 29, 2021, at St. John Lutheran Church at Boyden, IA with Pastor Mark Jamison, officiating. Burial will follow with military honors at St. John Lutheran Cemetery at Boyden, IA.
Visitation with the family present will be Thursday, October 28th from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George.
Lanny Lamont Winter was born January 27th, 1947, the son of Lois (Lape) and William Winter. He was raised on an acreage near Rock Valley, IA and attended country school and later high school in Rock Valley. On June 21st, 1968, he was united in marriage to Shirley Tiedemann at St. Paul Lutheran Church at rural Hull, IA. He and Shirley made their home in Kassel, Germany while Lanny was stationed in the US Army. In 1970, they moved to Hull, IA where Lanny began his lifelong career at the Farmers Co-op in Boyden IA. Then in 1973 they moved to Boyden, IA and established their permanent home. Lanny was an avid reader, enjoyed golfing, going to sprint car races and participating in the annual plays at Otter Valley Country Club. Most of all he cherished spending time with his grandchildren.
Lanny is survived by his wife of 53 years, Shirley; children, Sonja and husband Nicholas Vande Griend of Harvest, AL and their children, Elijah, Jacob and Amanda, and Isaiah; Chad Winter of Spirit Lake, IA and his children Sydney and Evan; along with siblings, Marlo (Liz) Winter, and Jean Driesen; sister-in laws, Fran Winter, Rose Winter, Evelyn Bakker, Ann Tiedemann and Martia Tiedemann; brother-in-law, Sam Driesen; and many nieces and nephews.
Lanny is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Darwin, Gary and Tom; sisters, Karolyn Henderson and Joan Driesen; sister-in-law, Eldoris Dykstra; brothers-in-law, Donald Tiedemann and Delmar Tiedemann.
