Nagel was born April 14, 1943 in Sheldon, Iowa, the son of Ludwig “Louie” and Tena (Nagel) Nagel.  He was raised in Sheldon and attended Sheldon Community Schools until 8th grade.  Then his family moved to George, IA.  He graduated from George High School in 1961.  He started working as a mechanic at Frank’s Auto in Sheldon for a couple years after high school, then moved to Sioux Falls and began working at Lock’s Auto Electric.       He was united in marriage to Elaine J. Jordan on October 4, 1963 at Tabernacle Baptist Church in George, IA.  The couple made their home in Sioux Falls where he worked for Ryan Motors for several years.  In the 1970’s he opened a Rupp Snowmobile Dealership and sold snowmobiles and motorcycles.  Shortly after that he opened his machine shop called Precision Engineering.  He specialized in building racing engines for area racers.  During this time, he also competed in drag racing at Thunder Valley Dragway and throughout the Midwest.  In 1990 he sold his equipment and semi-retired due to health concerns but stayed very active in his shop.      From 1996 to 2007 he and his wife, Elaine had a concession trailer where they went to city celebrations, car shows, etc., selling homemade ice-cream.  He was known as “The Ice Cream Man”.      He was a member of the NHRA Drag Racing Association and served on the board at Hartford Speedway.  Tiny enjoyed anything that involved working with his hands. He was the ultimate “fixer”.  He could take anything apart and put it back together.  He also liked woodworking, such as building cabinets and remodeling.  He loved spending time with the lake family, which included Kevin and Dawn Cooper and their children, Kayla, Kelsey, Ashley and Amber, Debra and Michael Broek and Kiana Jordan, at their Okoboji home.      He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Elaine Nagel of Sioux Falls, SD; a sister, Donna Hewitt of Brandon, SD; a brother, Stanley (wife, Dee) Nagel of Sheldon, IA; nieces and nephews, Rick Hewitt, Terry Hewitt, Richard Hewitt, Bob Nagel, Shane Nagel, Michael Nagel, Jesse Nagel, Stephanie Bultman, Amber Nagel, Robin Boersma, Lori Hewitt, Lisa Stoltenberg, and Mark Jordan; a brother-in-law, Roger (wife, Marilyn) Jordan of Orange City, IA; two sisters-in-law, Miriam Jordan (husband, Bob Barrows) of Knoxville, TN and Peg Jordan of Brookings, SD; special friend, Dr. Lon Strawbridge of Anchorage, AK, who was a fellow “Gear Head”;  and many other extended family.      He was preceded in death by his parents, Louie and Tena Nagel; a sister-in-law, Eunice Becker; two brothers-in-law, Dale Hewitt and Nathan Jordan; and a nephew, Kelly Hewitt.
