Larry Zuraff

Larry Zuraff, age 73 of Larchwood, IA passed away on Monday, November 19, 2018 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD.
Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, November 24, 2018 at the United Church of Christ in Larchwood, IA with Rev. Kelly Volk officiating. Burial will follow at Larchwood City Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday, November 23rd from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with family present, at the United Church of Christ in Larchwood.
Larry Lee Zuraff was born October 18, 1945 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Gerald and Shirley (Vosburg) Zuraff. He was raised in Sioux Falls and graduated from Washington High School. As a young man Larry began many hobbies. One of those was making and competing with model airplanes. He won many competitions and a trip to Philadelphia. Larry enjoyed motorcycles and worked as a salesman at Shadco in Sioux Falls. He was a member of the Sioux Valley Cycle Club and raced motorcycles at the track in Renner, SD.
On August 27, 1965 he was united in marriage to Nolene Myers at Eastside Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, SD. To this union four children were born. In October of 1977 Nolene and their daughter Nicky were tragically killed in an auto accident. On November 18, 1978, he was united in marriage to Fran Berg at Sherman, South Dakota and gained six more children. Larry had been actively farming for the past 40 years near Larchwood.
Larry was a man of many interests and could fix anything. Not only did he enjoy building model airplanes, he also owned and flew his own four seat Cessna 172. He and his family enjoyed many flights checking out the crops and traveling to the EAA airplane show in OshKosh, WI. Larry went to the Sturgis motorcycle rally many years. His latest venture that he called his “end of life” crisis was buying into and running a mini-rod pulling tractor. He had a wonderful and infectious sense of humor. But most of all Larry loved his family. This past Monday, Larry passed away at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls at the age of 73. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Fran Zuraff of Larchwood, IA; daughter, Nola (Curtis) Jones of Larchwood, IA; sons, Terry Zuraff of Boise, ID:, Mark Zuraff of Larchwood, IA, Gerald (Laurie) Berg of Tea, SD; daughter, Colleen (Gary) Miles of Larchwood, IA; sons, Brian (Robin) Berg of Sherman, SD; Bruce Berg of Las Vegas and Mark Berg of Larchwood, IA; 19 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Cheryl Hagemeyer of Garretson, SD; brothers, Dale Zuraff of Arizona and Paul Zuraff of Sioux Falls, SD; and sister, Barb Bothern of Tea, SD.
He was preceded in death by his parents Gerald and Shirley; wife, Nolene; daughter, Nicole; son, Greg Berg; and mother-in-law, Grace McChristy.
